Protective Gear

The right protective gear keeps a child safe while cycling, scootering, skating and learning to balance. When choosing a helmet and pads, consider the following:

• Head circumference: measure it with a measuring tape just above the eyebrows and choose a helmet that matches the recommended size range.
• Adjustability: helmets with an adjustable ring at the back allow a precise fit and longer use.
• Chin strap: it should be fastened firmly but comfortably, leaving about a finger's width of space between the chin and the strap.
• Ventilation: air vents provide comfort during longer rides and in warmer months.
• Elbow and knee pads: they should fit snugly without slipping, while not restricting movement when walking, running or riding.
• Replacement after a fall: a helmet that has been exposed to a strong impact must be replaced, even if there is no visible damage.
